  5.  
  6. This little application gives you the total power on time of your Mac,
  7. that is the total number of hours and minutes that your Mac has been
  8. turned on EVER. This information is kept in PRAM (battery-powered
  9. memory) and gets updated by the system every five minutes.
  10.  
  11. New in version 1.1 : The “Toggle View” button changes display from
  12.                                                                 hours & minutes to years, months, weeks and
  13.                                                                 days (requested by some users).
  14.                                                                 Fixes several cosmetic problems & bugs when run
  15.                                                                 on machines without Color QuickDraw (Thanks Judd).

  17. The given time may be inexact in the following cases :
  18.  
  19. •    The PRAM has been completly re-initialized (zapping the PRAM by
  20.         holding down the cmd-opt-p-r  keys during startup DOES NOT destroy
  21.         this information) or the battery has been removed, replaced...
  22.  
  23. •    Your Macintosh model is prior to the IIci, which means it doen't
  24.         remember how long he's been running. RunTime should notice
  25.         this and inform you that it cannot run on this Macintosh.
  26.  
  27. •    Your Mac has been turned on for more than 5 years (which seems
  28.         to be the capacity of the counter). In this case, the counter just
  29.         restarts from zero. Note that if the counter is exactly at zero,
  30.         RunTime assumes that the Mac doesn't record its power on time,
  31.         and it tells you that it cannot run on this model. If this happens,
  32.         wait five minutes and try again.

  34. Note that the “sleep” mode of a PowerBook or Duo (and of other
  35. Macs that can sleep) does NOT count as runtime (Thanks Bill).

  40. Hours view :             Displays runtime in hours & minutes.
  41.  
  42. Standard view :  Displays runtime in years (12 months), months (4.35 weeks),
  43.                                                     weeks (7 days) and days (24 hours). 
  44.  
  45. Business view :  Displays runtime in years (12 months), months (21 days),
  46.                                                     weeks (5 days) and days (8 hours). These are average
  47.                                                     work days, weeks & months.

  49. RunTime has only been tested on System 7 (on the following Macs : IIci,
  50. IIfx and IIvx), but it should work with System 6. Also tested on a
  51. PowerMacintosh 8100... and it works !!!

  53. RunTime uses a trap that (to my knowledge) Apple hasn't documented. Thus,
  54. it may not run under new System software or new Macintosh models. If you
  55. have trouble with it, please let me know.
